LIFE platform meeting: The benefits of peatland restoration for Europe

Dear IMCG friends,

 

we would like to inform you about an online event that coud be of interest for some of you, especually our European members, but not only.

Ehe European Commission (DG Environment and DG Clima) in cooperation with CINEA agency, NEEMO EEIG Group and the host Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU) organise a three-days event: "LIFE platform meeting: The benefits of peatland restoration for Europe" in Berlin on 26-28 April 2023.

The European Union's LIFE programme was launched in 1992 and has since co-financed thousands of projects in the field of environmental protection. Since its launch, the LIFE programme has played a very important role in peatland conservation and restoration in Europe and to date more than 360 peatland conservation and restoration projects have been co-financed by LIFE. In 2023, peatlands experts and representatives of LIFE projects working on peatlands are meeting in Berlin to present and discuss best practices and policy developments for peatlands restoration.

Agenda include:
  -  EU policy on protecting peatlands, including the recently proposed Nature Restoration Law,
  - LIFE's work since 1992 to conserve and restore Europe's peatlands - and its plans until 2027,
  - The challenges facing peatland conservation,
  - Restoring peatlands for climate change mitigation,
  - Peatlands and land use,
  - Funding for peatland restoration.

 

Key parts of the first day 26 April 2026 will be live streamed.
