20^th IMCG Field Symposium and General Assembly, Germany

Peatland Conservation, Restoration and Paludiculture: 26 July to 4 August 2024

The 20^th IMCG Field symposium and General Assembly will be held from 26 July to 4 August 2024 in Germany. The IMCG General Assembly will be held on the 4th of August in Greifswald, Germany.

The field symposium will take participants across a variety of peatlands from South to North Germany. We will visit some of the best preserved peatlands with high biodiversity and unique characteristics. We will also visit restored peatlands and sites with paludiculture. The visits will give ample opportunity to see ongoing conservation and rehabilitation measures as well as highly sophisticated monitoring approaches. Because of logistic constraints, the number of participants is restricted to a maximum of 55. The cost will be around 1.000 €uro.

The field symposium will start in Freising, which is located close to Munich Central Station (a major international train hub) and Munich airport (similar for air traffic). It will end in Greifswald. From Greifswald, frequent trains connect to Berlin and Hamburg from where trains and planes can bring you further. IMCG Germany 2024 Post-Field-Symposium-Excursion

Mires and Peatlands of Brandenburg (NE Germany): 4 to 9 August 2024

From 4 to 9 August 2024, we will offer the opportunity to visit the wonderful world of mires and peatlands in Brandenburg (NE Germany). The post-field-symposium-excursion will focus on peatland diversity in the biosphere reserves “Schorfheide Chorin” and “Spreewald” and discuss the question if rewetted peatlands are the future of wilderness areas? The excursion is organized by Jenny Hammerich, Vera Luthardt and Jutta Zeitz. The number of participants is restricted to a maximum of 20, the expected costs are assumed to be around 700 €. Please register definitely until 29. February 2024 if you want to join the 20^th IMCG Field Symposium and General Assembly and (or) the post excursion tour.
Please fill out the registration form by end of March 2024. Once you have yourself registerted, you will get more information about the excursion including payment details during spring time.
