The Ramsar Small Grants Fund was established in 1990 as a mechanism to assist developing countries and those with economies in transition in implementing the Ramsar Convention and to enable the conservation and wise use of wetland resources. It has provided funding and co-funding, up to 40.000 Swiss francs (about US$ 34.000) per project, for about 180 projects, totalling some 7,5 million francs. The Ramsar Secretariat is now calling for proposals for the 2006 cycle. The deadline is 30 June 2006.
